Both vinyl and laminate flooring mimic the appearance of tile, stone, or wood, but laminate flooring is often higher quality. Laminate is frequently thicker, too: It’s usually between 6 and 12 mm, while vinyl is about 5 mm thick. While manufacturers emboss vinyl sheets with designs, laminate finishes usually include a resin seal.
Luxury vinyl plank flooring—or LVP—is luxury vinyl flooring made up of planks instead of one large sheet of vinyl or individual tiles. LVP flooring is popular because it's: A wood-look product that shares characteristics of hardwood. Easy to install. Waterproof.
It typically takes about 4 hours to install laminate flooring in a 10- x 12-foot room. And once you snap in the last plank, you're ready to install the shoe molding and carry in the furniture. There's no time required for sanding, staining or varnishing.
